I haven’t read any of the other books in this series/world, but I did not have trouble following. I liked Kyrene quite a bit: she was deeply flawed but still so determined to persevere. The mythology was a tiny bit confusing, since I came in late to the series, but I still found it interesting. And a bit horrifying, Still, this was a solid, engrossing read.
