I’ve been doing pretty well so far this year, keeping up with the lessons in the HTRYN course, and starting over with HTTS. But this week…Not so much. It’s been hard this week, and I haven’t had much “free” time to work. Nowhere near as much as I’d like, anyway. Not by a long shot. I should be finishing up lesson seven in HTRYN tomorrow. Instead, I haven’t even really started it, apart from printing out the worksheets, and reading the lesson about three times to try and grasp the information. It’s about Setting, and this lesson, for me, is DEEP. And very much needed… Hopefully I’ll get a chance to do some work on it later tonight.

On the up side, I did wake up two mornings ago with a complete story idea dancing before my eyes, so I grabbed a notebook and scribbled down the high points, as well as any details I could remember. Interesting story. And not like anything I’ve written. Epic fantasy with a heavy war element, which is totally not like me at all. Intriguing idea, though….(*staring at notebook with story notes longingly* No. Can’t work on that now. Have other darlings to worry about right now…But later, My Precious. Later.)

That’s about all I’ve got going on for now. How’s everyone else’s week going?

  1. I was just going to email you to ask how the revisions were going. I'm getting back into my routine after all my December travels and have started working on my collaborative fantasy story again. I just bought a notebook today to keep track of all the little details I keep thinking of and then immediately forgetting. 🙂 Also, picked up a book called The Constant Art of Being a Writer. Hope it's good!

  2. The revisions are going. Pretty well on the werewolf story. The HTRYN class is well worth it, if you ever get the chance to take it. Just getting started on the zombie story. I hope your travels were fun, and I'm glad to hear you started working on the fantasy story again. Notebooks…I have at least one with me everywhere I go. 🙂 Seems like I've heard of that book. You'll have to let me know how it is.

  3. I've banned the words 'should' 'ought' & 'must' from my personal vocabulary. Things take as much time as they need, and there's no point giving yourself a hard time trying to acheive the impossible. If you need more time for a lesson, then you should use it – you'll get marked *up* rather than down for making the most of it. Good luck with getting through the setting, and hang onto your "precious" … sounds like a pretty cool idea!

  4. Also true, Ellsea. I did get it together yesterday and did the entire lesson, but I thought my eyes were going to fall out. Turns out, I have barely any scene description in the entire freaking book! Good to know, of course, but a bit depressing. Oh well. At least I know it now, right? And the "precious" is a cool ideal. Very cool. I'll definitely hang on to it!
